The Camel Doesn’t Want It? I Don’t Buy It.

Legal Bud

I feel I’m still a bit new around here, and I have questions a plenty; but I think more important to note are some of the answers I’m getting. It seems that some of the reasons I get for marijuana prohibition are a bit unlikely at best. I want to share one here.

ATF: I just realized that the acronym for Above The Flat is ‘ATF.’

Anywho…

ATF:  So why is it illegal?

Unlikely Answer: Because of the greed. Especially by that of the cigarette/tobacco companies. You see, legalizing pot would mean people could buy that instead of cigs, and they would lose money. And we all know how much weight they carry in Washington.

Why is this unlikely?

Think about this. Marijuana was around long before Big Tobacco, and will likely outlast them (given that the human race does). Even its prohibition does little to stop a smoker with even the slightest bit of initiative.

That being said, Joe Camel and that cowboy still produce record sales. I’ve always said that there are three things Americans will buy, regardless of our situations: Our vices, our entertainment and our gas.

Take into account that cigarettes are way more addictive than marijuana, and there isn’t much that will stand in their way.

Also consider their profitability. Who would be better equipped to profit from a smokable substance’s legalization than a company that already has the hardware, real estate and client base to handle the production, packaging and distribution than a cigarette company? Nobody I can think of.

They have the money, the networks and ability to produce and distribute a pack of marijuana cigs that couldn’t be matched by anyone else.

Stand to lose money? Not a chance. If anything, they stand to increase their profits exponentially.
