I’m talking, of course, about the premise of  ‘Super High Me,’ an admitted spin on a previously recorded experiment ‘Super Size Me.’

If you’ve seen ‘Super Size Me,’ you already know what this movie is about, but if you haven’t then I’ll break it down for you.

Super Size Me

Morgan Spurlock decided to put his own body at risk by committing to a strict McDonald’s-only regimen. He forced himself to eat at the golden arches for every meal, for 30 days straight.

Interesting enough as that were, the movie was enhanced with Morgan receiving various physical tests prior, during and after the whole ordeal. And all throughout the film were excerts and tidbits of information surrounding the fast food industry as a whole and their impact on society.

All in all, great movie.

Even Better

What would be better? Replace McDonald’s with Marijuana.

That’s exactly what Doug Benson, a comedian from California did for ‘Super High Me.’ And I must say, he and his team did an incredible job.

The novelty of seeing someone who had to stay high for at least 18 hours per day for 30 days straight aside, the film gives a great look at the life of a ‘pothead.’

Not only does the film catalog Doug’s daily life, but the lives of dispensary owners, medical marijuana industry proponents and opponents and various others from all walks of marijuana life.

You also get to see just how the DEA crashes down upon them with little regard to local law. At one point, the DEA raided a dispensary without a legitimate warrant, but I’m not sure how that turned out for them. Seems the raid would have been voided, but I’m no lawyer.

Super High Me also goes into various ways collectives work in marijuana to their organization. For example, at one point Doug visits a church that revolves around the use of marijuana, and how it relates to Christianity.

Though this was just one case, you notice rather quickly the harmless nature of smoking marijuana. Doug never flipped out to kill anyone. He never drove under the influence. And believe it or not, he never disappeared completely into a couch (though he works that commercial into one of his standup skits nicely).

Even at the very end of Doug’s 30 high days, several doctors discuss the impact the experiment had on his physical well being. I don’t want to spoil some of the better parts, but suffice to say it was minimal at best.

Overall, great movie. This is mostly for use of entertainment as Doug is a comedian and he does his job well, but there are looks at medical marijuana and real-world situations the industry must face every day that gives the movie legitimate, documentary-style validation.

If you want to get down and dirty with facts and numbers though, I reviewed the perfect movie for that. But if you want to laugh while doing so, I don’t think you’ll find a better movie than ‘Super High Me.’
