ELLENSBURG, Wash. — Kittitas County Sheriff’s deputies discovered 9,514 marijuana plants worth nearly $10 million during an early morning raid today about 40 miles northwest of Ellensburg, authorities say.
The 6 a.m. raid of an outdoor marijuana grow in the Teanaway Mountains also turned up more than a half mile of irrigation pipe, fertilizer and gardening tools, Undersheriff Clayton Myers wrote in a news release.
Authorities believe the grow is associated with Mexican drug cartels operating in the Pacific Northwest.
Nobody was arrested at the site, although deputies did find living quarters made out of lodge poles and pine bows, authorities say.
The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office is part of a statewide marijuana eradication program, which combines federal, state and county manpower resources, funding, information and equipment.
